About John

I have been an Episcopal priest since 1992, having served parishes in a suburb of Chicago and New Hampshire.  I was raised in the Washington, D.C. area (Alexandria, VA) and graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1984. My wife and I were married in 1986.  We have two children.  Our son is a sophomore in college; our daughter is a junior in high school.

I am currently the Rector of Christ Church in Exeter, New Hampshire where I have served since 1999. I earned my Master of Divinity Degree (1992) and Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Development (2009)from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. My doctoral thesis, Redefining Congregational Identity and Purpose: Initial Steps Toward Becoming a New Commons, explores the opportunities and challenges for the church in a postmodern and emerging world. It articulates a new vision for congregational identity and illustrates congregational practices that create opportunities for transformation.

I started this blog as a way to explore and answer these questions: How do Christians live faithfully in an emerging and changing world?  How do we who are a part of the institutional church create common spaces for the spiritual and the secular to intersect? I hope you will join me in the conversation by making comments or being in touch with me.
